There are many advantages of using a CMS over a traditional static html pages.

-The updates happen in real time.

- No software to install.

- Collaboration between many editors is much easier.

- Better SEO (search engine optimization).

- More cost effective.

In most cases a CMS is programmed in php using a My-Sql database, or Classic ASP using MS-Access, MS-SQL, or My-Sql databases just to mention the most popular database types. ASP.NET is emerging as a new language to take over from Classic ASP, but Classic ASP is still holding on very strong. Here are some things to consider:

- Older web sites are ranked higher, so have patients, and let your web site mature.

- A domain name that does not expire soon will get a higher ranking.

- A larger web site (more pages and content) will get a higher ranking.

- If the titles, keywords, and descriptions used in the Meta tags are accurate and represent well the web site and pages, your web site will be ranked higher. Likewise, if you misrepresent your web site with wrong keywords, etc... you will be penalized and even in some cases kicked out of the search engine indexes, so be careful, accurate and non-deceptive.

- How often you update your web site will effect your ranking. Fresh content is important, so set up some RSS feeds for automatic content, setup some discussion forums and let your visitors create some content for you, setup a blog and post regularly.

- No deceptive text, hidden text in any page. One can put deceptive hidden text in a page by making the texts font color the same as the background color, thus hiding the text to the naked eye.

- No spamming. Do not notify Google  500 times a day about your incredible web site. Once is enough, maybe if you want to do it again next month. Once you submit, Google will index your web site within 3-4 days, sometimes even faster.

- A web site with a lot of traffic will get a higher ranking. Just like the real world, the rich get richer...

- How many other web sites are linked to yours. Even more importantly, how many important web site are linked to yours. You will be ranked higher if Microsoft.com links to your web site, as oppose to quickertemplates.com for example.

- DON'T PAY ANYONE FOR SEO. BETWEEN YOUR SEO KNOWLEDGE, ENA'S SEO FACILITIES, AND SOME EXPERIMENTATION, YOU WILL ACHIEVE YOUR SEO GOALS VERY EFFIECIENTLY. A LOT OF SUCH COMPANIES UTILIZE SOFTWARE TO SEND FAKE TRAFFIC TO YOUR SITE. THE SEARCH ENGINES IN MOST CASES WILL RECOGNIZE THIS AND YOU WILL BE PENALIZED.
